Before I was diagnosed, my parents noticed strange (aka usual Diabetic signs) signs of my diabetes. For example, I wasn't as hyper or excited, I drank way too much water, and was always sluggish. To make matters even more difficult, when I was diagnosed they didn't know much about diabetes!
It was difficult for my mom and dad, and even my brother who, at the time, probably didn't know why his parents devoted so much attention to his sister to give her shots!
Anyway, my mom would always come to my school at lunch during preschool and kindergarten to help me bolus and eat the food I wanted!
My dad would also come into my classrooms during my elementary school days to explain to my classmates and peers what diabetes is and what I have to do.
They have always packed my diabetic supplies for trips (until recently as I have tried to take on that reaponsibility) and have constantly worries about my wellbeing - diabetes and non-diabetes related.
In the end, I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it must have been for my parents when they were told that their three year old daughter was diagnosed with a life long disease! And I am so eternally grateful for everything they have done to help me manage my condition and keep me healthy!
