Hard Work Really Does Pay Off!

Growing up diabetic, I think I've been forced to work harder than other in general. Simple activities such as going running or sleeping over at a friend's house required mass amounts of preparation and determination on my part.

While I would love to take credit for my strong work-ethic, I have to say that a lot of it came from diabetes.

The fact of the matter is that if I wasn't diabetic, I wouldn't know what it means to have to wake up in the middle of the night to correct low blood sugar. I wouldn't have learned from a young age that you need to put your health and well-being over having fun. And I definitely wouldn't know what it means to work so hard until you get the results you want.

I have applied the qualities I have acquired with diabetes to my personal and educational life.

Over the past four years, I have worked extremely hard in school. While I am far from being the smartest or most intelligent student, I have always considered myself to be one of the most hardworking. I never knew if all of that determination would pay off.

I'm excited to say that I was accepted into two of my top colleges, University of California Berkeley and Santa Clara University!

While this post isn't directly related to diabetes and more just a chance to talk about something I'm so excited and thankful about, I know that diabetes has played a huge role in getting me to the place I am in my life now and I wouldn't be who I am without it.
