Best Treatments for Lows

BEST TREATMENTS FOR
L O W S

Lows and highs are unavoidable as a diabetic, and it is important to treat them before they get dangerous! Over the years, I have eaten probably over a thousand tablets, drinking endless bottles of apple juice, and chomped on pounds of candy to get my blood sugar up.

After a while, tablets and juice can get repetitive. Here are some suggested snacks to take to treat low blood sugars:

Clif Bars
For some reason, I only discovered Clif Bars a few years ago. These bars shoot my blood sugars up so breathtakingly fast, it blows my mind every single time!

Fruit Snacks
Fruit snacks are my go-to to treat low blood sugars. If my blood sugar is around 70-80, a 20 gram fruit snack is usually sufficient enough! A plus side is that there are a variety of brands and types of fruit snacks, and they are all very yummy!

Gel
Sports energy gels are meant to supply athletes with a quick source of energy; however, these small packets are also very useful for diabetics with treating low blood sugars!

Apple Sauce
Popular sources of treatment for lows are juices - apple juice, orange juice. A tasty alternative is apple sauce, as it is healthier, and usually just as sweet! However, you may have to drink two apple sauce packages to compensate for one apple juice bottle!

Grapes
My all time favorite treatment for low blood sugars are grapes. Grapes are a great substitute for candy or tablets, as each grape is usually about 1-2 grams!

Remember that every diabetic is different. Treatments for my lows may be different than treatments for yours. Don’t be afraid to explore and try different products out - you never know what will suit you best! Hopefully, these suggestions will work for you, but do not rely on them!
