Time to CELEBRATE

Have you ever worked for something your whole life, but felt like you never got the results you worked for? For example, practicing soccer day after day, but never making a goal? Or studying for a history test all week diligently but getting a C, whereas your friend spent fifteen minutes looking over the review and got an A? Or trying to make the perfect cookies year after year, but still have them coming out crumbly?

I'm sure if you didn't say yes to one those scenerios (which is unlikely), you have your own similar one.

Well for me, it has to do with diabetes and my A1C. If you don't know what an A1C is, here's a rundown: "The A1C test is a blood test that provides information about a person's average levels of blood glucose, also called blood sugar, over the past 3 months" --NIDDK.

Basically, it's a test that give you a number on a scale of around 5-10ish and tells you what your average blood sugar was for the past three months. Here's a chart:

So for diabetics, the best A1C one of us can get is around a 6.5 give or take. Non-diabetics have an A1C of around 5.7.

So back to me (: For my entire diabetic life, my A1C has been in the high sevens to low eights ):... which is NO BUENO!! Over the past two years or so, I've worked so hard to get my A1C down. I've used devices like Dexcom, testing my blood sugar 24/7, really staying on top of thing - you name it! But the lowest my A1C ever got was around 7.5. I felt like giving up!

So today, when I went to see my endocrinologist (diabetic doctor), Dr. Prakasam, and he informed me that my A1C was 7.0 I thought I was dreaming!!

Anyway, I am still in shock, but just felt like sharing my diabetic achievement with everyone!
