Riddle: What is something that non-diabetics experience (sometimes daily) that non-diabetics will never have to in their life.
If you've ever read my blog, you're probably guessing the answer is going to be something like... live with an incurable disease, test their blood sugar, experience low and high blood sugars... or something like that.
However, the other day my blood guar kept going low and I realized something - non-diabetics never have to experience: rushing to eat candy or drink juice quickly because of a low blood sugar, and non-diabetics never really have to go through eating sweets when they don't want to.
Think about it... I can't even count how many times I have shoved an entire bag of fruit snacks in before a run, or complained about eating cereal after brushing my teeth late at night, because of a low blood sugar!
What I'm saying is that as a diabetic, I often have to eat sweets when I don't want to, and I often have to eat quickly when I don't want to.
While non-diabetics have probably never encountered the dilemma of having to eat candy or ice cream, and have probably never had to eat really quickly (unless you're really in a rush, or if you're in an eating contest!).
Even though I've had to do this my whole life, I just really realized this fact the other day when my blood sugar levels kept going low. I had stable levels all morning, then around three I dropped really fast down to 40! Eventually it went up, but then around seven later that day it dropped back down to sixty!
Even though most lows I could have probably prevented if I had been more careful or paid more attention, the truth is that I get busy and sometimes forget to check my blood sugar every so often.
Anyway, I thought I'd just share this thought with the world! Thanks for reading (:
